After having verified that the origin of your fatigue is not medical, you can turn to herbal medicine. Ginseng, Eleutherococcus, guarana, nettle, Rhodiola, sea buckthorn … depending on the determinants of fatigue, different plants may be suitable.
Lemon balm, for restful sleep
We are talking about sleep from which we wake up already tired. Its architecture, an alternation of cycles, is disturbed. “Lemon balm, a regulating plant, gently acts on the most sedative of neurotransmitters (GABA), for a tonic awakening”, summarizes Dr Jean-Michel Morel. It indeed contains soothing active ingredients, but also stimulating rosmarinic acid and tonicardiac triterpenes.
How to use it? The herbal tea form is perfect here, to drink morning and evening. About fifteen leaves are immersed in boiling water, the boiling is interrupted, a slightly inclined cover is placed so that the steam falls into the container and it is left to infuse for 15 min.
Rhodiola, in case of mental fatigue
It is a small plant from extremely cold areas. In its underground parts, there is a neuroprotective and anti-stress active (salidroside), as well as an adaptogenic active (rosavin). In addition to its stimulating effect on our memory and attention capacities, the plant increases the levels of serotonin and especially dopamine, the neurotransmitter of pleasure, which makes it possible to regain the desire, the impetus for new projects.
How to use it? A dry extract, 5 to 10 times more concentrated than the powder, i.e. 2 capsules of 200 mg in the morning, or 1 to 2 g of powder, to be taken a few months for a lasting effect.
Nettle, at the time of a change of season
A little mishap, especially at a change of season, signals the start of a restorative nettle cure. In its leaves, amino acids, minerals, flavonoids, anti-inflammatory acids, in short detoxifying, but also toning, active ingredients. Nettle fights both the lack of iron and inflammation, a source of fatigue and premature aging.
How to use it? “1 teaspoonful of nettle standardized plant extract (EPS) every morning for 3 weeks, every other month,” suggests Dr. Morel.
Ginseng, ideal during convalescencex
Ginseng is a major plant, general anti-fatigue because it stimulates all functions, immune defenses in the mind. Another solution, blackcurrant buds, which can also be given to children. Revitalizing the adrenal gland and immunity, it behaves like natural cortisone, but without adverse effects.
How to use it? In the form of dry extract or powder, in capsule, respectively at a dose of 500 mg or 1 to 2 g per day of ginseng, in cures of 2 to 3 months. For blackcurrant, 15 to 30 drops in the morning until the desired effect is obtained. 1 to 2 drops per 10 kg of weight in children.
Camu and sea buckthorn in case of fatigue is physical
Camu is the champion when you want to increase your vitamin C intake (50 times more concentrated in this vitamin than orange). There are still multiple flavonoids that prevent its degradation, for a winning duo. Other energizing solutions, sea buckthorn juice or syrup, which gives a boost thanks to its minerals, vitamins, and polyphenols, and spirulina, rich in amino acids (constituents of muscle) and minerals, particularly indicated for the recovery of sportsmen.
How to use it? For the camu, in powder (2 to 3 g / day) or dry extract (400 to 600 mg / day), in cure of 15 days. For sea buckthorn juice, take, 1 tbsp. to s., morning and noon, 15 days. As for spirulina, the dose is 3 g per day, one week, which is increased very gradually to an average of 5 g, to be taken in the morning or at noon, in preferably cold food. Favor organic products, and where the origin of the seaweed is indicated.
Eleutherococcus, if you are overworked
This so-called Siberian ginseng (also called taiga root!) Re-inflates … In other words, it recharges batteries that have been flat due to overwork that is difficult to manage. Some of its constituents (triterpenes) have a structure similar to steroid hormones, and mimic the effects of cortisol, the stress hormone secreted by the adrenals and which also occasionally allows you to feel more alert.
How to use it? 2 capsules of dry extract in the morning (ie 400 to 600 mg per day), “for 2 to 3 months, to prevent as well as to treat,” advises Dr. Morel.
Guarana, the power of coffee against fatigue
Originally from the Amazon, guarana is the richest plant in caffeine that we know, far ahead of mate, cola, or green tea. Its purple-brown seeds, packed with active ingredients, are the source of its immediate and short-term psychostimulant properties. Guarana, via its caffeine, is still diuretic, lipolytic (it “dissolves” cellulite) and cardiotonic.
How to use it? In the form of a dry seed extract of 200 to 400 mg per day or as a powder of 1 to 2 g per day (the dry extract being five times more concentrated than the powder). Guarana should be absorbed over a limited period of time, for example, 15 days. No need to add too much coffee drink to this concentrated caffeine! Avoid in pregnant women.
Ginger, in case of sexual “fatigue”
A big slack, the desire that slips away? Ginger with its stimulating gingerols can be a welcome booster, especially for men.
How to use it ? 1 C. to c. Shave powder a day at the start of breakfast, as a treatment of about twenty days, then stop for one to two months, before undertaking a new treatment.
This “Peruvian ginseng” is traditionally used for its effects on sexual performance thanks to alkaloids (macaridines). Its tuber contains fatty acids and essential amino acids, as well as vitamins B, C and E with antioxidant properties, iron, magnesium, zinc. Maca helps fight free radicals generated by fatigue and stress. However, no study confirms its effectiveness.
How to use it? In the form of dried tuber powder, 500 mg 2 to 3 times a day, in cure of one to three months. It is reserved for adults, except pregnant women.
