Liposuction radically removes cellulite, but it remains a surgical intervention with all the inherent risks (anesthesia ….). “Liposuction is great on a young woman because the result is very visible, the hospitalization lasts one day and after twenty days of wearing panties, she no longer has any constraints. But as soon as there is visible sagging skin and the skin risks being flabby, the question of moving towards other techniques deserves to be asked ”, says Dr. Catherine de Goursac, aesthetic doctor.
Cryolipolysis, proven effectiveness
The principle of cryolipolysis
This technique starts from an observation. When the fat cells (adipocytes) are exposed to the cold for a long time, under very specific conditions, they can be destroyed victims of very localized information.
Cryolipolysis reproduces this action in a controlled manner, by applying a suitable tip to the fatty area to be reduced, and by maintaining a pressure associated with the cold.
To be efficient, a session should last one hour. The main areas treated:
- stomach ;
- love handles ;
- knee ;
- thigh fold.
“This method attacks localized fatty deposits, not overweight problems,” says Dr. Mazer.
The protocol: count one session for a moderate bead, two or three sessions of one hour each time for a larger bead. There are different sizes of tips depending on the area to be treated (stomach, knees, love handles …).
For what results?
The method promises effects in one session but delayed two or three months later, the time that the destroyed adipocytes can evacuate. Thus, just after the session, the skin presents a bead completely hardened by the cold, which disappears quickly.
The reduction in fat is visible after two to three months. The results are moderate:
“By pinching the belly pad, for example, you have to estimate that about a third will go away,” says Dr. Mazer.
The results promise to be long-lasting since the fat cells are destroyed, and not just emptied of their substance.
Price : from 300 to 600 € per session depending on the doctors and the machines used.

Cold lasers: fast results but less durable
The principle of cold lasers
Cold lasers have no thermal effect, they do not heat the skin. Their mode of action? Most likely,they permeabilize the membrane of adipocytes, which empty and whose contents are evacuated by the blood.
“It is a diode which permeabilizes the adipocyte. The fat vacuole which is in the adipocyte will cross the wall and leave via the blood, ”explains Dr de Goursac.
Immediately after the sessions, it is recommended to walking and drinking to promote fat loss. Adipocytes are emptied as with a diet and remain stable if the diet is balanced. But if the person eats in excess, the fat cells fill up again.
Watch out for tanned skin, matt or black, because of the risk of laser burns! You have to change the power, and with a weaker laser, do longer sessions … which will also cost more.
The protocol: to treat an area, we recommend between five and ten laser sessions at the rate of one or two sessions per week. Each session lasts approximately 20 minutes.
For what results?
“The results are immediately visible and, depending on the areas and the women, can range from 0.5 to 2 centimeters, ”explains Dr de Goursac.
But these results are sometimes less durable. To see optimized results, practitioners recommend combining cold laser sessions with a diet: “This makes it possible to localize the effects of the diet, by losing for example in priority on the stomach”, further specifies Dr de Goursac.
Also good indication: thin people who exercise regularly and keep an area of cellulite that they cannot lose. “The most common customers are women who are already thin, for example wanting to remove the bead above the jeans or lose at the knees. ”
Price : from 100 to 150 € per session.
The combination of cold laser and cryolipolysis for more efficiency
The principle : the two methods described above are associated here.
The protocol : as for cryo lipolysis, two to three sessions are recommended. For best results, it is advisable to do the laser first, then cryo lipolysis.
For what results?
The interest is to have an immediate and lasting result with cryo lipolysis.
“It is currently what is most effective apart from liposuction, says Dr. de Goursac, especially since there is also a tightening effect on the skin. “
Price : count around 400 € for a first session.
Ultrasound and radiofrequency for resistant cellulite
This is’electromagnetic waves for radiofrequency and mechanical waves for ultrasound and which target cellulite.
The radio heats her up; as for ultrasound, these are shocks that destroy the wall of the adipocyte (like ultrasound which destroys gallstones or kidney stones) and thus provoke an evacuation of fats, but without destroying the adipocytes.
The protocol : around ten sessions are necessary to obtain visible results.
For what results?
The results are more or less visible depending on the woman.
“I used these two methods a lot – ultrasound and radiofrequency – which I put aside a little except in one case: when the cellulite is really very hard and fibrous, and you have to go deep to dislodge it. But I recognize two problems associated with these methods: the sessions are unpleasant or even painful, and the results are mixed, ”concludes Dr de Goursac.
Price : from 200 € to 400 € per session.
Emptying fat cells in the blood: dangerous? The risk is no greater than when you have eaten cheese or a chocolate bar. “If I take a blood test two hours later, the blood serum is ‘full of fat’. It is exactly the same thing and the same slimming as a diet, with the same risk of resuming if you eat too much », Explains Dr de Goursac.
