The American site Hello flo asked gynecologists and midwives to find out a little more about it.
According to Carolyn Thompson, a gynecologist in Nashville, these belts are not necessary after giving birth to a child. In abdominal surgery, she explains, the belts are only used when surgeons have made vertical incisions, which is rarely the case with cesarean sections today. In this case, an abdominal belt is recommended to support the wall until healing and minimize skin tension at the wound.
“Most women who have given birth won’t need it, but if they find it more comfortable, it’s still worth a try,” she said. No danger. The pregnancy belts are therefore not recommended, but they are far from being prohibited, on the contrary, especially if they help the new mother to feel less discomfort.
Jessica Anderson, midwife and assistant professor at the University of Colorado in the United States, however, recalls that this “help” should not prevent the woman from treating the causes of her possible pain. And if the goal is to get back in shape and have a toned stomach, studies have shown that physical exercise is more effective than belts, concludes Hello Flo.
