Anyone on anxiolytics or antidepressants may be worried that their treatment will come to an end, or they may wish to avoid over-medication. There is the fear that you will have a relapse and have to continue taking this medicine for a long time. This is where Caycedian relaxation therapy has a very important role.
With the supervision of the attending physician, the Caycedian sophrologist teaches the patient a methodology so that he himself learns to use own resources and take an active and responsible part in the treatment of his anxiety and his state of mood
Anxiety and chronic stress manifest themselves in the body in different ways (sweating, increased heart rate, breathing, muscle tension). For this reason, we offer a series of sophrological techniques which act mainly on the body. By knowing it better and knowing how to eliminate tensions (somatizations), we will greatly reduce anxiety levels. This is how we usually start with breathing exercises and other techniques based on body awareness.
Gradually we continue to practice other techniques, which act more on the mind, helping to direct attention and thoughts where we want, and not where preoccupations and sometimes obsessions lead us. With practice we learn to be subjects of our thoughts and not objects of them.
We also work with sophrological techniques that strengthen positive emotions. We learn to find sensations, emotions and feelings within us, which were “stored” in our past, which are in the present moment and which project themselves towards a future full of meaning and hope.
Learning to use our own resources gives us a lot of peace, security and a sense of freedom which helps to gradually reduce the drug or withhold it in the cases indicated.
Tested by one of my students on patients from a Primary Assistance Center in Catalonia, it turned out that after eight weeks of sophrology, the patients had reduced their drug consumption by 30%. In addition, they were proud to have made it on their own.
Next time, we will discuss the bodily benefits of Caycedian relaxation therapy. In the meantime, don’t forget to practice every day.
